Flash beats HTML5 at its game
Hey guys, short post this morning, I found this video and found if very interesting with the whole discussion going on about HTML5 vs. Flash.
Turns out that Flash is faster on mobile devices as it stands, (assuming it's a fair test). Us Flash Developers don't have to worry too much, though I was never really worried from the start.
Flash has been here a lot longer than HTML5 has been, and that doesn't count for nothing. A lot of the arguments i'm hearing is about how HTML5 doesn't need a plugin and people find it frustrating to have to install the Flash plugin. I'm pretty sure they don't. Within the first day of visiting the web, you will have been asked (probably within the first 5 minutes) to install flash player, which usually only requires about 3 clicks. After years of having to do this, with not only flash player but with other extensions too, it's not much of a stretch to ask the user to install flash player.
Adobe claims that 99% of internet enabled desktops have flash player, and there penetration stats for flash player are huge. Somehow, I don't think they're at much risk!
Edit: PC Pro recently posted an article that fits very well with this post: Apple Vs. Adobe
Edit2: Looks like it was badly coded! http://daringfireball.net/linked/2010/09/20/not-so-fast

Okay first things first… Stop it, just stop it! I don’t mean you directly Merlin I mean every person out there going on and on about this stupid HTML5 vs Flash debate. We all know Flash is faster then HTML5 in many aspects (for the moment *buckles up flame resistant suit*), why people keep trying to pound that into our heads I will never know. HTML5 is still “fresh out of the box”, I mean it’s growing and it has lots of potential, but still has a long way to go before it is fully and properly supported. But really shouldn’t we be focusing more so on how we can leverage both technologies then seeing which one is better?
They are both just tools right? And any good developer knows to use what tool is best for the job. If you are a javascript guy and have been one for ages then maybe the next step is HTML5 stuff for you. If your a Flash guy then you will most likely feel more comfortable using Flash. If you are new to both technology and not sure what to use or how to use them, at that point you need to take a step back and look at the requirements of what you are trying to achieve and the resources you currently have available (what do your team members know already flash, ajax, etc).
If you want to do something super interactive (such as a game), then for the moment it’s probably good to go with Flash, if you want to build a website that is very mobile and web friendly then perhaps it makes sense to start looking at HTML5.
Apologies for the rant it’s just I am so sick and tired of this HTML5 vs Flash debate. It’s time to move on… I mean really now.

Haha, sorry Joe! The reason I posted it was actually because it’s been talked about so much at the moment, including on the FGL forums, and I thought it might be something people would be interested in.
You’re right though, I’m fed up of how freaked out people are too, (was I trying to calm flash developers down maybe?). Anyway, that’s the only post you’ll see on it.

Haha, yeah it wasn’t targeted at you buddy
Just any crazy HTML5 or Flash people that read this… Yeah the FGL Forums, Twitter… My god I remember when the whole HTML5 vs Flash debate really exploded on Twitter, it was madness! Just about everyone and their grandma were writing up articles on which was better. At this point articles like this just are like throwing more gasoline on a tire fire that was finally starting to die, lol.
With all that said check out this really awesome HTML5 game
